Cross-border Co-operation on Creating Sustainable Region and Source Efficient Society

The 2Regions2Sustain project connected Pécs (HU) and Osijek (HR) to improve regional waste management and promote circular economy. BIOKOM and Unikom distributed 3,617 bio-waste bins, trained 250 people, and reached over 2,400 households with composting guides. Through networking events, a study tour, and joint guidelines, the project built stakeholder cooperation, reduced landfill waste, and set the groundwork for sustainable cross-border waste solutions.

Joint efforts for risk prevention and cross-border coordination in disaster

JERICO aims is to bolster resilience to climate change through collaborative efforts, enhancing risk prevention and disaster management across the HU-SRB border by upgrading the capabilities of volunteer firefighting units for swift action in climate-related emergencies by fortifying infrastructure and collaboration tools; to enhance the knowledge of the general public about disaster preparedness and response strategies and to ensure the availability of new generations of voluntary firefighters.

Reducing Risks By Improving Interoperability Between Slovakia and Hungary for Better Preparedness

The project boosts disaster preparedness along the Hungarian-Slovak border by uniting volunteer fire brigades and municipalities. Through shared know-how, modern tools, and joint trainings – including a large-scale exercise – volunteers gain standardized skills to respond to floods, storms, wildfires, and emergencies. Building on results from another Interreg project, e-learning modules on safety, security, and machine handling were integrated, ensuring harmonized cross-border protocols.
