The 2Regions2Sustain project connected Pécs (HU) and Osijek (HR) to improve regional waste management and promote circular economy. BIOKOM and Unikom distributed 3,617 bio-waste bins, trained 250 people, and reached over 2,400 households with composting guides. Through networking events, a study tour, and joint guidelines, the project built stakeholder cooperation, reduced landfill waste, and set the groundwork for sustainable cross-border waste solutions.
Impact Pathway
The results of 2Regions2Sustain can be reused by municipalities, authorities, and NGOs to improve waste management and promote circular economy. The project’s guidelines, training methods, and citizen engagement tools are transferable and support future initiatives. This creates strong potential for capitalization, helping other regions and projects build on proven practices for reducing waste and fostering cooperation.
Transferable know-how
The waste management guidelines and know-how can be adapted to extend circular economy practices beyond Pécs (HU) and Osijek (HR). Regional/national waste management authorities can integrate cross-border cooperation aspects into their waste strategies and policies. Educational institutions & NGOs could use project results as training materials for kindergartens, schools, universities, or public awareness campaigns. The project links to the EU Circular Economy Package and Danube Strategy, or to the LIFE Programme, since it can serve as a foundation for larger-scale projects that need baseline data, good practices, and tested citizen-engagement methods in tackling waste reduction, green jobs creation, and circular economy.
